Small rooms tend to have small windows too which can make the space feel even tinier than it is. Give the illusion of larger windows by using drapes strategically. Get a rod thats wider than your window by a foot or two on either side. That way, you can open the curtains fully, but give the illusion there is more window behind the rest of the curtains. Also try layering your drapes in different shades to give them a flowy, light look and stick to lighter colours to brighten up the room.
If you have got dark flooring or a low ceiling, rugs can brighten up a room by reflecting light back up. Always go lighter when you are shopping for rugs and try to stick to ones with abstract designs so dirt is not prominently displayed. If you are doing an area rug, try going larger than the centerpieces in the room to draw out the space and give the illusion that it’s bigger than it really is.
